Each quarter the Department of Labor Office of Foreign Labor Certification publishes statistics on the number of Permanent Electronic Review Management (PERM) applications filed with its office. Included in this publication are the number of PERMs filed, the number processed, the occupations for which a PERM is sought, the States for which the PERM is filed, the industries for which PERM is sought, the visa classifications under which the PERM is filed, the top countries represented in the filings and the education level of the beneficiaries of the PERM. The number of PERM applications for any quarter of a fiscal year can be a good indicator of the number of I-140 employment-based green card petitions that will be filed in that fiscal year. This number will have significant impact on the priority date movement or retrogression of visa number availability. See below.
